WORKSHOPS

All the following workshops can be adapted to a one or two day workshop, or two or three combined for a week's course.

THE DIVERSITY MUSLIN - During this one or two day workshop we will be swimming in a sea of muslin, to distress, manipulate, layer, stitch, and paint and decorate with various mixed media techniques. Ideally suited to embroiderers who have basic to advanced skills in free machine embroidery.

BAGS OF STITCH - A lively workshop where you will create a delightful contemporary bag or two tiny purses using an unusual fabric and hand stitch. Whether you are a beginner to embroidery or you are experienced you will not only develop your own design for your bag but also extend your textile skills.

BUTTONS, BOBBLES OR BROOCHES - Using basic hand embroidery skills, create unique and trendy buttons, bobbles or beads which can also be crafted into brooches. An exciting workshop for those who prefer to work by hand, but are still pushing the boundaries. Suitable for all levels of experience.

ENCRUSTED SURFACES - For all those who are addicted to stitch, spend a day or more of pure indulgence creating rich encrusted textile surfaces which could be made into textile jewellery, bags or purses, books and boxes etc. You will be encouraged to challenge your style of working and to extend pre-conceived boundaries. We will be combining free machine embroidery, hand stitch, zapping, bonding, using various paint techniques and various mixed media methods. Experience in free machine embroidery is necessary.

ALL WIRED UP - This course will revolve around the use of cotton covered wire for constructional purposes. Initially the wire will be, either painted or decorated and embellished with machine embroidery. The construction of various forms will be performed by both hand and machine embroidery techniques enabling the creation of items as large as vessels or as small a jewellery. Experience with free machine embroidery is necessary.

FRAGMENTED IMAGERY - Images will be fragmented for inspiration or fabrics fragments and pieced or applied to create a whole fabric. A variety of techniques will be employed included hand and machine embroidery. Resolved pieces are limited only by your imagination and can be taken into a further body of work. Experience with free machine embroidery is essential.

THE FABRIC OF EMBELLISHMENT - Discover the potential of the Embellisher as another tool to contribute to the creativity of the textile artist. A workshop of challenges and experimentation to prove that the purchase of your embellisher was not just about the necessity to acquire the latest gimmick on the market. This is a machine that has endless possibilities for creating unique fabrics, manipulation and infinite forms of embellishment, which become an exciting foil for stitch. This Day School can only be taught if most people in the class have Embellishers or have a needlefelting attachment for your sewing machine. This two day workshop is suitable for the beginner or those who have some experience.

THE FLIPPANT STITCH - The day will be spent, looking at traditional hand stitchery, in a light hearted and irreverent way. Using fabric, unlikely threads, and some fabric surface decoration using a variety of mixed media techniques, we will be attempting to extend our perceived knowledge of traditional hand stitchery.

FUNKY TEXTILE JEWELLERY - Create various pieces of funky textile jewellery in this one or two day course. Adapt the techniques shown to suit your own style, either ornately embellished or stylish and minimalist. Hand and machine embroidery techniques will be employed together with fabric colouring, bonding, beading and wiring techniques. Machine embroidery experience is desirable.

STITCH AND WRAP - Wrapping is the predominant technique that will be used in this day school. We will be concentrating on the creation of materials to wrap with and a variety of wrapping methods. Inspiration on what can be wrapped and how to incorporate the items into your work will be a central part of the day. Embellishment by hand and free machine embroidery will complete some of the experimental work.

ON FORM - Creating 3-D forms can sometimes be very challenging. Its knowing HOW to construct that vessel, container, or abstract structure, rather than how to embellish it - even more how to bring originality into it. We will be looking at a variety of methods of construction and which method is suitable for particular projects. This workshop is for those with at least intermediate experience in working with textiles and an ability to work free machine embroidery.

BOOGIE WITH BOOKS - Cutting, folding and gluing can it really be that simple? Well nearly ? with the addition of surface decoration and a little stitching you can create your own simple, but unique books at this lively workshop. Books created during the day will all have a professional finish, but with a unique twist and originality which will appeal to anyone interested in crafts and in particular, textiles.

ANY OF THE LISTED WORKSHOPS CAN BE COMBINED OR EXTENDED TO COVER TWO/THREE/FOUR OR FIVE DAY COURSES
